Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
“What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?” (Luke 15:1-10)
GO AFTER THE LOST: The message of today’s gospel seems pretty clear – God loves us always and unconditionally. If we feel lost or are lost, He will work to bring us home again. He is the Good Shepherd and will always come after one of His sheep that have strayed.
If He was literally a shepherd and we were actually sheep, that would be the end of the story.
However, we’re not sheep. We are Christian human beings; we are responsible for one another. That means God is not the only one going after strays. As Christians, our goal is to do the will of God. It is our responsibility to help bring back the strays.
If you are the one that has strayed, that should bring you comfort. If you are one of the ninety-nine, that should call you to action.
