Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ…In love he destined us for adoption to himself through Jesus Christ… (from Ephesians 1:1-10)
ADOPTED: This is an interesting perspective from Paul: Because Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came to us in human form and became part of us, we have the privilege of being considered the adopted sons and daughters of God.
As adopted children, we have full access to all God has to offer: His love, compassion, kindness, and mercy. The love of God is unconditional, as it is for any parent.
As we grew up, we had a variety of engagements with our parents: At times we were scared, because we knew there were going to be consequences for our misbehaviors; we were sad, knowing we disappointed them; we felt safe when our parents protected us or kept us out of harm’s way; we felt affirmed when our parents acknowledged our gifts or successes; we felt loved – always.
So it is in our relationship with God. As his adopted children, we experience his parental love.
