Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
Jesus said to the crowds: “To what shall I compare the people of this generation?” (Luke 7:31-35)
DEEPEN OUR FAITH: After asking this rhetorical question of the crowd, Jesus went on to give some of the harshest criticism we hear from him in the gospels, an indictment of the “people of this generation.”
He painted his listeners as people who were never satisfied, people who wanted to sit back and have things come to them.
Are we willing to work for our faith? Do we sit in judgment of others and point fingers of indignation, rather than putting our efforts toward making a difference in the world?
We pick at our faith and poke holes in our beliefs because complete trust is challenging.
We should pray daily for the courage to leave ourself vulnerable, asking God to deepen our faith and make us an instrument of His peace.
