Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer (July 18).
“You have been told, O man, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do the right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:6-8)
CONSISTENT AND SIMPLE: A summary of Micah’s message – Do the right thing. Love goodness. Walk humbly with God. Jesus’ two most important commandments – Love God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as yourself.
God’s message to us, whether conveyed by prophets such as Micah or through His son, Jesus, has remained the same throughout time; it is consistent and simple.
We are constantly searching for happiness. We seek answers that will explain the evil in our world. We look to fill the void in our lives. Where do we begin? We begin by looking inward. Peace has to start in our own hearts.
Are we willing to follow God’s simple directives to love, do the right thing, and walk humbly with Him?
Saying “Yes” means setting aside our hatred, anger, bitterness, resentment, prejudice, and jealousy. It requires setting aside our own needs and focusing on others.
The message is simple; living the message is challenging.
