Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
“…although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.” (Matthew 11:25-27)
CHILDLIKE: This is not the only time Jesus indicates the importance of being childlike.
Matthew 18:3 — Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.
Matthew 19:14 — Let the children alone, and do not hinder them from coming to Me; for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.
Luke 18:17 — Whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.
We often hear these passages read at baptisms, as we are reminded that Jesus invites the little ones to come to Him. He wants us to hold onto the joy and exuberance of childhood.
Think about how as children we were so excited about life and saw each day as a new adventure. Think about how as children we were so accepting of others and so quick to forgive and forget. Think about how as children we were genuine, and loving, and pure.
Jesus has his arms extended and invites us to run to Him. He wants to be our best friend. He wants us to jump up and down with excitement and take His hand. He wants to be invited to come with us and be a part of what we are doing. He wants to be invited to share in our lives, to comfort us in our sorrow, and to share in our joy.
Wouldn’t it be great to feel like a kid again?
