From the Deacon's Desk

Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.

“Everyone who acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.”(Matthew 10:24-33)

ACKNOWLEDGE JESUS: We often hear the expression, “He talks the talk, but doesn’t walk the walk.” In other words, he talks a good game, but when the rubber meets the road, he doesn’t really back up what he has said with his actions.

I feel like as Christians we often do just the opposite. We live our faith lives quietly. We try to do the right things. We do our best to love God and love others as ourselves. We go to Mass and tithe and help the poor. All good things for sure. That is faith in action.

So we walk the walk, but do we talk the talk? We are called to spread the Gospel message in word and deed. We seem to be confident with the “deed” part, but what about “word”?

When it comes to verbalizing our faith, many Christians freeze. They feel intimidated and uncomfortable, perhaps unworthy. Who are we to tell others about Jesus? We are His disciples, that’s who!

To have a strong faith and not share it is selfish. Christians are called to walk the walk and talk the talk.

Our reward will come: “Everyone who acknowledges me before others, I will acknowledge before my heavenly Father.”
