Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
OBEY: There is an interesting connection between the two readings of the day. In responding to the accusations of the Sanhedrin, Peter and the Apostles say, We must obey God rather than man. Then, in John’s Gospel we read, Whoever obeys God has eternal life. (Acts 5:27-33 and John 3:31-36)
Summary of the readings: We must obey God. If we do so, we will have eternal life. Seems simple enough. So what’s the problem?
The problem is obeying man is easier than obeying God. People tend to choose the path of least resistance, so why obey God when what man has to offer is so much easier?
Man says do what feels good. God says do what is pleasing to Him.
Man says serve yourself. God says serve others.
Man says live in the moment. God says live for eternal life.
We must obey God rather than man. However, that may easier said than done.
