Each day, I reflect upon a word or a phrase inspired by the readings of the day. I encourage you to do the same and perhaps incorporate that word or phrase into your daily prayer.
Then your light shall break forth like the dawn, and your wound shall quickly be healed; Your vindication shall go before you, and the glory of the LORD shall be your rear guard. (Isaiah 58:1-9)
LIGHT SHALL BREAK FORTH: I think the light Isaiah refers to is not our light, it is the light of Christ shining through us, and that opens up new possibilities. What are those possibilities?
It means that even if we weren’t given the gift of a beautiful voice, we should choose to sing anyway, and allow the light of Christ to shine through us. If we weren’t given the gift of artistic ability, we should create anyway, and allow the light of Christ to shine through us. If we weren’t given great academic gifts, we should choose to work hard and study right alongside our more gifted classmates, and allow the light of Christ to shine through us.
The light of Christ is not intended to simply bounce off our God-given gifts and radiate out to the world. Rather, it is intended to shine through us and reflect both who we are and who Christ is to others.
